Genus: Melanoplus Species:Differentialis
Therefore the scientific name for a grasshopper is Melanoplus Differentialis.

Locations-
There are many locations around our school grounds in which grasshoppers can call home-
  • The playing field
  • Near the grotto
  • Within the bushes
  • The graveyard
  • The novel ship lawn
  • In long grass around the lawn and field.

Adaptations-
The main adaptation of a grasshopper is its camouflage, the colour of differents species of grasshopper are often dependant on their environment.
They also have strong jaw fo chomping through plants and they have tiny feelers near the mouth to taste the plants. Their v-shaped muscles help them jump higher. They need these physical adaptions so they can survive in their environment an hide from their predators.

Special Features-
For such a small creature the grasshopper can make a surprisingly loud noise, The noise is made by a row of pegs on therir back legs, which they rub against their forewings.
Grasshoppes lay their eggs in fry soil. Their nymphs emerge, their is no pupa or chrysalis stage in their life cycle. They simply grow, and molt several times until they reach adult size.
